Look smart: help dress kids for school

We’ve got a way for you to help dress local kids in sharp looking school clothes, or grab a bargain if your own kids are heading back to class.

We’ve all learned that fast-fashion can be wasteful and is bad for the environment. At Cambridge Community House our school uniform clothing efforts are the exact opposite. We encourage the community to take some collective responsibility and make full use of the gear we already have, by redistributing it to the people who need it most.

We now have a dedicated room, thanks to local support from Waipa District Council Waste Minimisation Funding and Wardrobe World, who kitted out the room. We also have some equally dedicated volunteers, getting school uniform clothing ready for the new year. This is a service available to everyone in the community and it’s one with plenty of rewards.

Here’s how it works
We accept donations of quality used school uniform clothing in clean and good condition. We also get financial support from caring people in our community to help specifically with sourcing brand new school clothing for those who are really in need. Our amazing volunteer team look after the sorting, sizing and distribution, making sure every piece is in tip top condition for its new owner.

The uniform clothes are then made available to everyone in the community. We provide the clothes to those who need them for free, but we also welcome a koha of whatever you can afford, to help support the service, or contribute to buying more stock.

This is one of those services that just keeps on paying back our efforts in so many ways. For one, it’s a great way to recycle used school uniform clothes if your youngsters have finished school, or just grew a foot and a half over summer.

Also, if your kids are going through a growth spurt it can be heartbreaking to spend up large on new gear, only to watch it last six months before they get too big. So why not save quite a few dollars and let them outgrow some pre-cared for school uniform clothing instead? Simply pay us as much as you can afford.

Grab a bargain
So, if you have a batch of kids to prep for the new school year, why not grab a bargain from Cambridge Community House. You’ll be recycling, saving money and helping your community all at the same time.

We also encourage everyone to bring items back when their kids no longer need them, as we’ll always be able to find a new home for any good-quality spare school uniform items.

If this is the kind of community action you’d like to lend your support to, consider making a donation to help kids in your area start the school year with clothes they can feel confident in.
